This beautiful chateau has remained in the same family since its construction in 1341. It was renovated and enlarged in both the XVI and XVIII centuries to become today a historical monument, rich and welcoming in its refined decor and furnishings.
The stones of Urtubie testify to six centuries of Basque history and tell the stories of a time gone by. The king, Louis XI vacationed here in 1463 and Louis XIV deemed the land noble in 1654. During the XIX century famous characters such as Soult and Wellington would pass through the domain as the Napoleon wars continued on.
