Basque Museum
and the history of Bayonne

The renowned museum of the Basque Country.

Situated in the historic centre of Bayonne, the Basque Museum is the largest ethnographic museum of the Basque Country.  2000 objects and works of arts are displayed in close to 20 rooms. 

 

The collection began in 1922 and testifies to the unique Basque identity, the role of this society and traditions as well as the important function of the Bayonne harbour in the XIX century. 


More than a visit, it is a beautiful voyage.

Hours  :

    Open year round. Closed on Mondays and Holidays.

    Summer Hours:
    From 10am - 6:30pm from May 2nd to October 31st.
    July and August the museum is open 7/7 with nocturne visits Wednesdays

    Winter Hours:
    10am - 12:30 and 2pm – 6pm from November 2nd to April 30th.

    (access to the museum is closed 15 minutes before closing)
