The Prison called Bishops

Bishops is an important construction dating from the XIII century, the marks and work of the bricklayers attest to the grandeur.   It stands as a reminder that Saint Jean Pied de Port was the Episcopal residence chosen by the Avignon pope during the Occidental schism.

Bodyguards, cells, impressing underground rooms implore the emotions.  There is an annual exposition on the middle age paths of Saint James.  Each building in Saint Jean Pied de Port takes visitors into the past and history of the region.  The citadels, ramparts, State houses of Navarre as well as the Gothic church and House of Mansart bear witness to the yesteryears.

Saint Jean Pied de Port is an ancient historic city crossed by the St. James Compostelle paths and is registered as Humanity & World Heritage by UNESCO.
